Structure and design of the plant

The R2D2 water softener impresses with its robust cabinet housing, which not only protects the internal components but also serves as a salt reservoir. A removable lid makes maintenance and refilling particularly easy.

Inside the cabinet is a pressure-resistant, integrated GRP pressure vessel filled with high-quality ion exchange resin. This resin forms the heart of the system and ensures permanently soft water through the effective exchange of hardness-causing minerals.

Quantity control with the BNT 1650 valve

The integrated BNT 1650 valve enables precise, water-volume-controlled regeneration of the system. The built-in water meter measures the softened water consumption and automatically initiates the regeneration process as soon as the preset flow rate is reached.

The regeneration process starts daily at 2:00 AM, with the valve preset to "Delayed volume-controlled regeneration". This ensures that the water softener operates continuously at optimal levels and reliably monitors consumption.

High-quality ion exchange resin

The high-performance ion exchange resin is saturated with sodium ions and plays a central role in the water softening process. As tap water passes through, calcium and magnesium ions are effectively exchanged for sodium ions, resulting in soft water.

The long-lasting resin, when regularly regenerated, ensures consistently high water quality and boasts a lifespan of over 20 years. This guarantees sustainable and economical water treatment.

Automatic regeneration of the water softening system

Once the resin is fully saturated with calcium and magnesium ions, the self-regeneration process begins. A highly concentrated saline solution is automatically passed over the resin, reversing the exchange processes and re-enriching the material with sodium ions.

During this process, the calcium and magnesium ions, along with excess salt solution, are discharged into the wastewater via a separate drain. This allows the resin to be regenerated quickly and made available for further applications.

Forced regeneration and safety features

To prevent bacterial growth in the resin bed, the timed forced regeneration ensures that the system automatically switches to regeneration mode on the 10th day after a prolonged period of inactivity. This function guarantees continuous hygienic water treatment.

An integrated safety float valve with a buoy protects the cabinet housing from overflowing water, ensuring reliable operation even in unusual situations. Depending on water hardness and consumption, the system's salt reservoir lasts for approximately 3 to 4 months.

Technical data and performance characteristics

The Water softening system R2D2 is available in various models designed for households of 4 to 7 people. The system's capacity varies depending on water hardness, with some models capable of softening up to 7,200 liters.

The various technical parameters include a nominal flow rate based on DIN 16939 and a regeneration time of between 30 and 45 minutes. Furthermore, the system is designed for a maximum pipe water flow pressure of 6 bar and remains reliably operational at a minimum pressure of 2 bar.

With a large salt capacity of up to 50 kg and robust GRP pressure bottles in various sizes, the system offers a flexible solution for diverse needs. Its low power consumption of just 3 watts further underscores the energy efficiency of this innovative product.
